Peacock Day Gecko (2000)

Acrylic on illustration board
14" x 8"

The day geckos of the genus Phelsuma consist of nearly forty species of mostly stunning little lizards, distributed across Madagascar and the Comoros, Seychelles and Mascarenes, with one species occuring on the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. The peacock day gecko (P. quadriocellata) is found along the eastern third of Madagascar. As do other menbers of its tribe, it feeds during the day on insects, fruit, and the nectar of flowers such as this banana (Musa paradisiaca).
